The Sindh cabinet on Tuesday approved the allocation of 20% grace marks for first-year intermediate students in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics following controversy over the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) results.
The decision comes in light of a report submitted by a sub-committee formed by the Sindh Assembly earlier this year. The parliamentary committee, headed by Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah, was tasked with investigating irregularities in the BIEK results after pressure from opposition parties.
Initially, the committee had recommended grace marks of 15% in Math and Physics and 20% in Chemistry for students who failed. However, the cabinet decided to extend 20% grace marks across all three subjects for all students, regardless of pass or fail status.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also directed reforms within BIEK and ordered the chief secretary to investigate alleged irregularities in all provincial education boards, calling for a comprehensive report.
