An angry mob set a water tanker on fire near Sakhi Hassan Five Star Chowrangi on Friday. The incident occurred when a tanker allegedly hit a citizen, after which the situation turned tense.
According to police, a water tanker was coming from Paposh Nagar and allegedly hit a citizen named Imran near Chandni Chowk, causing him minor injuries. Eyewitnesses said that after the accident, local residents chased the tanker and the driver sped up the vehicle in panic, and while trying to flee hit a footpath at high speed and overturned on the road near Five Star Chowrangi, within the limits of Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan Police Station.
Eyewitnesses stated that as soon as the tanker overturned, angry people set it on fire. However, the driver and cleaner managed to escape from the scene. In videos of the incident, one person can be seen being beaten while trying to flee.
After the incident, police from Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan station reached the scene and collected evidence. According to SHO Abid Shah, an investigation is underway and CCTV footage is being obtained to identify those involved. However, the tanker driver, Irfan, who sustained minor injuries, reached Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment after formal legal procedures.
