Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history on Monday by becoming the youngest player to score a century in men’s T20 cricket, powering Rajasthan Royals to an emphatic eight-wicket win over Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

The teenage sensation pulled Rashid Khan for six to reach a blistering 100 from just 35 balls — the second-fastest century in IPL history and the quickest by an Indian.

Only West Indies legend Chris Gayle, with a 30-ball hundred in 2013, has scored a faster IPL century.

Suryavanshi’s electrifying knock included seven fours and 11 sixes before he was bowled for 101 off 38 deliveries.

His partnership of 166 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten on 70 from 40 balls, helped Rajasthan chase down a daunting 210-run target in just 15.5 overs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Signed by the Royals for £103,789 (1.1 crore rupees) last year, Suryavanshi only turned 14 last month. He made an immediate impact in the IPL earlier in April by hitting his first ball for six and showed the same fearless approach against Gujarat.

His innings also set the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history, reaching the milestone in just 17 balls.

Suryavanshi’s onslaught included punishing spells against Ishant Sharma and Karim Janat, scoring 28 and 30 runs in single overs respectively.

Victory ended a five-match losing streak for Rajasthan and kept their slim hopes of making the playoffs alive. Gujarat, despite strong efforts from Shubman Gill (84) and Jos Buttler (50*), slipped to third on the points table based on net run-rate.

Suryavanshi’s rise has been meteoric.

The Bihar-born batter made headlines last year by scoring a century for India Under-19s against Australia and has already featured in first-class cricket for Bihar, making his debut at the age of 12.
